Pilar's photo based and mixed media work has appeared in galleries throughout the Capital Region, as well as in Chicago, IL and Los Angeles, CA. Of her work she states: "Often, I am moved to create by personal experiences ...[and my work]... often focuses, cathartically so, on historical and political insinuations on individual and collective identity, on gender, gender expression and race. "

In 2011, she interned at the Center for Photography at Woodstock where she worked with artists in residence (AIR) and helped to produce photographic documentation for the center and plan their annual gala. Pilar completed her Master of Fine Art in Photography in December 2013; she graduated with honors from the San Francisco based, Academy of Art University.

Pilar is a long time resident of the Capital Region. She and her husband Chuck enjoy the company of three cats and two dogs: Action Jackson the Dachshund and Coraline the Corgi. In her spare time, she also participates actively in community and volunteer activities. She is most proud of her service as a youth mentor or “Big Sister” for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Capital Region.
